Resection of the Gastric Tube Reconstructed through the Retrosternal Route without Sternotomy

چکیده
With advances of combined modality therapy, prognoses in esophageal cancer have been improving. After resection of esophageal cancer, the development of gastric tube cancer is a risk. While such cancer in an early stage can be cured endoscopically, total gastric tube resection is indicated in advanced stages. A 68-year-old man underwent subtotal esophagectomy reconstructed with a gastric tube through the retrosternal route. Gastric cancer was found one and a half years postoperatively. The gastric tube was resected without sternotomy. This is the first report of a patient undergoing resection of the gastric tube reconstructed through the retrosternal route without sternotomy.

Resection of Left Atrial Myxoma in a Patient with Retrosternal Gastric Tube: a Case Report
The median sternotomy remains the standard approach in cardiovascular surgery but, in some conditions, it can be considered difficult to perform, especially in patients with history of esophagectomy. This case report describes a successful resection of a left atrial myxoma through a right anterolateral thoracotomy approach in a patient with a previous retrosternal gastric tube reconstruction. T...
متن کاملFive cases of early gastric cancer in the reconstructed gastric tube after radical resection for esophageal cancer.
We report seven early gastric cancers in five patients, which arose in the reconstructed gastric tube after radical resection for esophageal cancer. Four of them occurred in the middle gastric tube and three in the distal gastric tube. Three of 5 cases were reconstructed via the retromediastinal route and two via the presternal route. They all were diagnosed by follow-up endoscopy from 8 months...
متن کاملGastric tube resection due to metachronic cancer and a recurrence in anastomosis after Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy – case report
Gastric tube after esophagectomy can be the site of local recurrence or the development of second primary tumor which implies poor prognosis. The study presents an extremely rare case of a patient after Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy for squamous cell carcinoma, in whom there was detected local recurrence in the anastomosis associated with metachronous primary tumor in gastric tube. Esophageal rerese...
متن کاملSternotomy after retrosternal esophagogastric anastomotic disruption: a case report
Disruption of cervical esophagogastric anastomosis after retrosternal stomach transposition remains a dangerous complication. We report a case of cervical gastric disruption after retrosternal gastric transposition in a 36-year-old man that required sternotomy for reanastomosis. After sternotomy, gastric mobilization was possible, in order to gain sufficient length for a new cervical esophagoga...
متن کاملModifications in retrosternal reconstruction after oesophagogastrectomy may reduce the incidence of anastomotic leakage.
OBJECTIVES The retrosternal route has been an alternative for oesophageal reconstruction after oesophagectomy. But the longer route and the higher incidence for cervical anastomotic leakage compared with the posterior mediastinal approach have always hampered its wider use. However, with the recent work reported by Chen and colleagues, the anterior route has been confirmed to provide the shorte...
